It has been almost a decade since any specialised comic shop existed in Oxford. For comic book lovers that’s a decade of having to travel outside of Oxford, or resorting to reading or ordering online, when what we really want is a hub – a feeling of community – back again.
That is exactly what Inky Fingers hopes to achieve.
Inky Fingers opened in July 2015 and since then has welcomed all ages to browse our comics and sit in with a lovely cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate. We stock all of the comic book staples, from Marvel (such as The Avengers) and DC (such as Batman), to lesser known ‘indie’ and self-published books, to Oxford’s very own kid’s comic publishers The Phoenix. No matter what your tastes are you will find what you’re looking for here.
For some strange reason there has always been a kind of taboo surrounding reading comics. Many people are of the opinion that once you ‘grow up’ you won’t have any interest in them anymore, and that the older folks who do read comics are somehow childish. This couldn’t be further from the truth.
Do you love to read? Do you appreciate art? Why wouldn’t you enjoy the two combined, then?
What Inky Fingers are hoping to show people is that comic books are not just ‘superhero’ stories – not just action for the sake of action – that there are as many comic book genres as there are book genres, from horror and crime thrillers to ‘slice of life’ and rom coms.
If you’re on the fence about getting into comics, think of them as ‘books+’ and pop in to Inky Fingers to have a chat about your interests and let us recommend something to get you started.
Inky Fingers also offer a subscription service for those series you want to keep up to date with as they’re released.
